* John C. Ruff  (Captain)   1938 - 2000

Captian Ruff was Wadsworth’s first Commanding Officer, and by all accounts one of the most decent men to command a Naval vessel.  He Graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1962.

His tours of duty includes USS Stribling (DD-867) as MPA, USS Meredith (DD-980) Operations Officer, River Patrol Officer in Vietnam, USS Coontz (DLG-9) as Chief Engineer, USS Steinaker (DD-863) as Executive Officer.  His Command history includes USS Wadsworth (FFG-9), USS Cape Cod (AD-43), and PACFLT INSERV.

He was laid to rest at sea from the USS Wadsworth (FFG-9) on 9/10/2000

Charles R. Burchell  (Captain)   1943 - 2006

Captian Burchell was Wadsworth third Commanding Officer.  Capt. Burchell devoted almost his entire career to being at sea and had 3 Command tours ending with CO of USS Vincennes (CG-49), and retiring as Deputy commander at Military Sealift Command.

* Charles McGathey  (SKC)   1944 - 1981

SKC Charles McGathey passed away of a heart attack while the ship was at sea off the coast of California.  Chief McGathey was a great guy, and was well liked among all of his shipmates.  He will be missed.

* Michael E. Finley  (GSCS)   1949 - 2000

GSCS Michael Finley passed away from lung cancer in Jacksonville, FL. He was a well liked shipmate, and retired from the Navy as an GSCS.

* Dennis J. Janisch  (GSM1)   1948 - 2008

Prust

* Gary Prust  (RMC)   1944 - 2015

RMC Gary Prust passed away from natural causes in Red Oak Texas. He was one of the original crew of the Wadsworth and a well liked shipmate, he retired from the Navy 1988.

OSCM Paul C. Dolan III passed away after a battle with brain cancer.  At the time of Wadsworth’s commissioning he was the LPO for CS1 Div. and very much liked by all of his shipmates.  Paul went on to a successful 25 year career in the Navy, serving in various duty stations all over the world and ending his career as a Command Master Chief.  Paul was a consummate sailor, and will be very missed.
